i've been told that it's good to do something that scares you at least once a day. perhaps this is why i decided that griffin and i should start skijoring together. the fact that i am a train wreck waiting to happen on skis and that griffin, in addition to her innate husky desire to pull when put in harness, tends to run even faster when scared (as happens when you attach a train wreck on skis behind her), and it becomes a commedic display of griffin running full tilt and me yelling "whoa, whoa, WHOA!!" which she in turn interprets as, "run faster, i'm coming for you with my skis and poles swinging at your rear!"
despite the steep learning curve, for both me on skis and griffin in harness, there were only two falls during our first session. the first one was pretty epic during which i think i may have even landed a cartwheel as i caught an edge and griffin continued to chase whole heartedly after matt upon whom we had been gaining. the second one, was a little more relaxed as i caught an edge attempting to actually ski behind griffin rather than just letting her pull me.
so the take-home message from the first skijoring lesson with griffin and i seems to be that it is better to hold on for dear life and let griffin do all the work, rather than trying to be an active participant in the whole ordeal. no breaking, no skiing, just tucking down and keeping bent knees as we race around the local trails of anchorage.
