last weekend's toy of choice was cross country skis. this weekend's (borrowed) toy of choice was fat tire bikes (also known as pugsleys).

we cruised the chester creek trail from our front door all the way out to the coast where we had planned to travel up the coastal trail. in the planning stages, we forgot to factor in the presence of the strong coastal winds waiting to bombard us at the trail crossing. pile strong winds on top of -25C temperatures and it took a total of three minutes biking down the coast before we aborted our coastal mission and decided to stick to more sheltered paths. and the chester creek trail did not fail in providing us with many hours and many miles of beautiful bridges over half frozen streams, winding trails through aspen forests and the most glorious and radiant sunshine we could have asked for. 

all in all, i'd say this weekend's exploration adventure was a raving success. taking a detour from the trail to stop for hot chocolate on the return ride home definitely added to the joy...and helped warm the tingly toes that seem to be a by-product of biking in -25C.
