back up north, back into the wilderness

a new summer field season has begun! after a cross-continental road trip taking us from Phoenix, AZ -> Davis, CA -> Victoria, BC -> Lake Louise, AB -> Saskatoon, SK -> Calgary, AB -> and finally Fort Smith, NT, i am extremely happy to be set up in my small cabin on the river where the dogs can run wild and i can paddle my little kayak to my heart's content.

the research has started out with a bang as we chase little brown bats through the woods and rose bushes using radio telemetry while niko keeps the bears away and griffin naps in the truck. and of course, the canine diet has reverted back to the old menu of the tree planting days, consisting mostly of bones and rotting carcasses pulled from the woods. as long as i don't have to pick up the poo, i figure they're free to eat whatever they like.

the summer has just begun and i think we're all excited for the next couple of months of roaming the woods, chasing some bats, and a whole lot of paddling on the slave river!
