i'm pretty sure i set myself up to not like anchorage. or at least i really tried. on the off-chance that matt wouldn't be keen on the job, or that anchorage itself really would be a shit hole, i prepped myself to think it wasn't all that great prior to flying up to see for myself.
then we got there and it was overcast and snowy. not the ideal conditions to see a new city. i wandered the downtown streets, poked my head into as many coffee shops as possible, and explored neighbourhoods to get a feel for the place.
i really did try to not like it, and the gloomy weather did all it could to try to assist me in my mission, but by day three after tasting excellent local brews, eating delicious local rock fish, cross country skiing on miles of local trails and seeing the humongous mountains backdropped against blue-bird skies, i gave up. i loved it. i plain and simply loved it. but i still refrained from fully loving it in case a job offer didn't come. but of course it came. and then i was allowed to roll into my excitement and let the love of it become a reality.
the adventurous options are absolutely limitless! the mountain ranges, the rivers, the sea shores to kayak amongst migrating whales and calving glaciers. the list goes one. a list that i'm sure will slowly be ticked off as we set up our new home next january in anchorage alaska. so for those of you who have always dreamed of scaling mountains or paddling amongst icebergs, go ahead and book your tickets. but no huge rush, we plan on being there a while...
