our evening mistnet captures are typically limited to bats, but every once in a while, we get an unsuspecting bird tangled in the fine threads of our nets. while in Yellowknife this weekend, we were lucky enough to be visited by a gorgeous night hawk, and upon returning home to Fort Smith last night, a beautiful big brown bat allowed us to take his measurements and continued to hang out on the rock face above us for a short while afterwards.
my research takes me to some pretty cool places with some phenomenal scenery, but it seems to be the resident species that captivate me the most.
