i've been comfortable in a canoe ever since i was a little kid and was frequently loaded into a boat with my dad, brother, camping gear and golden retriever for weekends fishing on the lake. i became comfortable on white water after a three week canoe trip down the thelon as a graduation present from my dad after high school. i then pulled matt into it when we did our mountain skills semester in the rockies about eight years ago. so i've loved it for a long time, unfortunately the opportunity to play in a whitewater canoe doesn't present itself as often as i would like.
so it was with great pleasure this past weekend, that matt and i jumped in a canoe to run some rapids down on the slave river, and i'm happy to say it was just like riding a bike. we easily fell into the same old rhythm of synchronized strokes, calling commands and responding in turn. it felt good. as much as i've enjoyed playing around in a small river kayak this summer, it really is in a canoe that i'm the most comfortable...and perhaps have the most fun, but don't tell that to my kayaking friends.
