up until now i have enjoyed hot sunny bug-free days. brandon (my lab mate) came up for a month to assist in the field work set-up and kept saying, “the bugs are way worse in manitoba” to which i kept responding, 'you just wait, the bugs haven't arrived yet'. brandon left last week. the bugs decided to emerge this week. the only thing that is allowing me to keep my sanity, besides the new bug net i put over my bed and the bug jacket i'm bound to live in for the next three months, is knowing that the bats need these bugs to survive. and with the arrival of the bugs comes the quickening of fetal development and the rapidly approaching parturition date. soon we will have baby bats to study and the madness of the bugs will all fade away behind the excitement of birth. or so i keep telling myself as the buzzing gets louder and the no-see-ems take their little but oh so powerful bites...

Ha, ha. See, Jesika, that's one of the reasons why most of us QUIT planting. I'm beginning to think you've got a touch of the old sado-maso in ya :)
Enjoy yourself.
