griffin the nut job

any one who has followed the plethora of stories about niko and griffin have had many laughs, many shocks and many, "wow, i'm glad those aren't my dogs!" moments. you followers will also know about griffin's tendency since puberty to - i use this term loosely - "exert" her "dominance" over any other canine within close proximity.

i really thought she was getting better. i thought this as she batted her cute little eyes at me this morning, i thought this as she actually played with two little dogs in the dog park this afternoon, but all hopes and dreams were shattered when a big male pitbull entered the park and griffin tore into him like he was a dogcatcher stealing her puppies. okay, not the best analogy. regardless, i was lucky that the owners were super chill, casually pulled out their citronella dog spray and said, 'don't worry about it, they'll work it out. and if not, we've got dog spray'. so as i took a deep breath and watched griffin take down a dog double her size, it was nice to be in the company of people who understand the need for dogs to show each other what they're made of. some dogs do it by barking, niko does it by strutting, and, well, griffin does is by taking the other dog down. a minute later when the pinning and snarling had eased off, we assessed the damage, concluded that each one was in tact, give or take a little blood, and niko was extremely happy that griffin was done 'exerting' her 'dominance' and that the new dog was now free to play.

at this point we all turned and noticed the man with the two small dogs carrying them both in his arms straight out of the park. needless to say, when another lady showed up with three yappy dogs, i wasn't going to stick around to see what lessons griffin thought they needed to be taught. oh griffin, at least she knows the strength of her bite and stops just before puncturing the skin. this makes explaining her aggressive tendencies a little easier than having to do it over a blood bath. it could be worse...maybe.
